GREAT CONTEMPORARIES

Penetrating profiles of twenty-one political and literary luminaries. An utter delight to read; beautifully written, brutally opinionated (Hitler comes off just a bit better than George Bernard Shaw). The ensuing "Revised" edition (and most future reprints) added four new profiles: Lord Fisher, Charles Stewart Parnell, Lord Baden-Powell and President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Description: This is a very good copy of the First "Revised" English edition, in an unclipped dust jacket that is bright and clean but with a creased closed tear across the upper left corner of the front face, other smaller, short closed tears front and rear, and fractional corner loss to the upper right corner of the front face.
The blue cloth boards are age-darkened and a bit scuffed but square and tightly bound. The contents are fine, though page 8, which was a blank page, has inexplicably been excised. There are a few spots of foxing to the prelims and a former owner's name discreetly inked on the front free endpaper, along with a tiny bookshop stamp on the lower edge of the front pastedown for "Thacker & Co., Ltd., Bombay."
A very nice example and quite rare in the dust jacket.
