THE RIVER WAR

More blood and guts reportage by young Winston, the war correspondent, here in his second book delivering a brilliant history of British involvement in the Sudan and an account of the fierce campaign for its reconquest that Churchill himself participated in and, in many significant ways, disapproved of. Originally published in two large, lavish and, today, extremely rare volumes. All subsequent editions were significantly abridged.

Description: This is a very good First English edition set. The gilt lettering is bright, the contents of both volumes are clean, tight and unfoxed. There are two small cuts in the rear board of Volume I, as well as some patches of fading to the cloth. The corners are a bit crunched on both volumes, the hinges are beginning to give. There is a previous owner name in ink on both front free endpapers. Overall, though, a solid example of a very rare pair.
