Winston S. Churchill bust

Vintage American WWII Propaganda Poster

Date: No Date Given (1942?)
Published: The National Industrial Information Committee
Size (Details): 16 x 20 inches

Category: Ephemera
From: Churchill at Chartwell
Item Number: 206983

Description: This rare American wartime propaganda poster reproduces Winston Churchill's words about the USA over Churchill's facsimile signature:

"When I survey and compute the power of the United States, and its vast resources, and feel that they are now in it with us," with the British Commonwealth of Nations, all together, however long it lasts, till death or victory, I cannot believe there is any other fact in the whole world which can compare with that."

The words were actually spoken in the somber aftermath of the fall of Singapore in February 1942 but, typically, Churchill managed to be both truthful and inspiring in his assessment of the future.

The poster, produced by the National Industrial Information committee, measures 16 x 20 inches, and is in very good condition, with the standard folds and light creases. An example of this rare poster is in the collection of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery.
