This is a precious leatherbound Presentation Copy of the first Churchill biography ever published, SIGNED and Inscribed in ink by the Author on the second front free endpaper to: "Winston Spencer Churchill, with compliments from A.M. Scott, 9.II.5." Churchill was just 30-years-old in 1905, on the verge of his first government appointment as Undersecretary for the Colonies in Liberal Prime Minister Henry Campbell-Bannerman's government. The leather binding is vintage, no doubt contemporaneous with publication. It is three-quarter deep red oasis over red cloth boards, the spine labeled in five compartments with raised bands and gilt titles. The binding is shelfworn but intact. The contents are fine. Extraordinary!
Bibliographic numbers (in parentheses) are from Frederick Woods' original Churchill bibliography (Woods), as emended by Richard Langworth in his Connoisseur's Guide; and from the new, greatly expanded Churchill bibliography by Ronald Cohen (Cohen).
